RBI Baseball 19: Nintendo Switch 1 Month Review

Whats going on everyone.  BigMigz here back with a new Nintendo Switch game review.  Today, we going to look at RBI Baseball 19 by MLB.  Will this be the year that MLB finally gets the game right?  Lets find out, as I will give you the details after playing the game for just over a month now.  Reason why I waited to do this review was because of the patch updates the game has received for the switch that improved it greatly since launch.  More on that later.

So, now that we got all the games new features out the way.  Let me tell you how this game is better than last years version, but still needs to be tuned up a bit for the Switch.  I will not review this game as a simulator or compare it to MLB The Show as its not supposed to be a sim type of baseball game, rather an arcade style type of play we all grew up and loved back in the Nintendo and Sega days.

Let me start by saying, I love this game.  You can play a whole 9 inning game in less than 30 minutes.  And even faster if you score a lot of runs and have the mercy rule in effect.  The graphics and animations have improved a lot.  The menu system is a lot faster and there is no delay or any input lag the plagued last years game.  The facial scans are 10x times better as you can really recognize today’s stars.  But by far to me the best feature still has to be the weekly roster update.  Where you can download the update and even if you already started a franchise mode, you can implant the updated roster to the franchise mode so your team is always up to date with having to restart the franchise mode.  Home run Derby is a great addition as well.Jackie Chan Why

When the game initially launched back on March 5th, 2019, it was plagued by some really annoying bugs.  It was almost unplayable.  Every time you hit the ball to the outfield the game would drop frame rates to almost unplayable measures.  The lag was real here folks.  Frustration quickly set in and I literally almost gave up on this game.  And the lack of online play, so i could face other people around the country is still confusing to me.

But after just few days, the developers released a patch that made me fall back into the game.  Gone was the stuttering and frame drops when I hit the ball into the outfield.  The gameplay felt so much smoother.  But while the patch did fix some bugs, the cut scenes are still god awful.  The Framerates are atrocious and that is putting it lightly.  It hurts my eyes every time I hit a home run or anything else that involves a cut scene. And one annoying thing they have to fix is, the strike zone.  Countless times has a pitch been thrown and crosses the chalk on the other side of the batters box and be called a strike.  Hopefully these issues could be addressed in a future patch.

Nothing-is-Perfect

So while this game does not run at 60 FPS like the other console versions.  It does now run at a solid 30 FPS ( except for the cut scenes smh ) .  The game is now enjoyable for the most part and I love it, but I just cant get over the fact of no online play and how awful those cut scenes are.  So would I pay the asking price of $29.99 for it?  I will say that all depends on the gamer.  If you love baseball, grab it and hopefully future updates fix the cut scenes at least lol.  If you are curious about the game, I would wait for the price to go down at least to $19.99.  At that price I would recommend anyone to get it.

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this review and I answered your questions of this game.  If there is any more future patches, I will make sure to update this review and let you guys no what or if any has improved.  Take care everyone.
